Meet The Face Behind INDI Solar

I’m Greg Hession, proud owner of INDI Solar.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I got into this business as a curious entrepreneur back in 2007, around the time when Ontario started its renewable energy program. I was fascinated by solar technology at the age of eleven, and I always enjoyed building things. I started this company because I genuinely believe alternative energy solutions are an essential part in securing a better future for our species.

INDI Solar was spun out of my sole proprietorship as a general contractor. One of my clients wanted solar panels on the roof of a cabin we were building for him. So that was my first solar project in 2013. The previous six years, I was learning about the industry and the technology, making connections with various equipment suppliers, manufacturers and attending trade shows.

Over the past couple of years, the business has become more streamlined since it began in May 2015. The project management aspect has always been a focal point for me. The first day of project construction is the most enjoyable part of the work. It’s always such a pleasure to be outside working with my hands, building a small part of the future in a beautiful part of the world. But there is a fair amount of administration that is needed to execute one of these projects, and I feel that I have achieved a very high level of proficiency in this area.

When it comes to serving clients in this business, I believe in making no compromises in regards to project design and equipment selection. For this reason, it is so important for me to stay on top of my game and keep finding new ways to apply solar technology in real life industrial applications. While on the job, I always make sure we keep a clean work site and respect the environment. It is values like this that people appreciate and respect about you. After all, this company is about green energy, so it is only right to respect the surroundings we work in.

As an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is the way I deal with everyone I come across in my work life. I treat everybody like a customer. Whether it’s the customer, vendor, utility company or staff, life is too short to be nasty with someone.

When I am not at work, I love sailing and teaching people how to sail in the summer. In the winters, I enjoy skiing and sharing my passion with others. I enjoy teaching people and teaching them about how they can make decisions to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.
